The Community at The Glades

At LWP Property Group we don't develop land - we build communities. We create better places to live, work and play. We do this by starting with a vision for a community. We identify the needs and wants of the people who will one day live in that community - the young and the old, the married and single, children and families.

We assess what needs are already provided for and which ones we will need to address. From there we begin to create our Community Development Plan. At the heart of all our Community Development Plans are a number of principles. View the community plan here.

A joint initiative between LWP and the YMCA, a Community Development Officer works to link our new community with the existing Byford township, by bringing new residents together with established community and sporting groups, whilst also identifying new facilities and services required by the growing community at The Glades.

A busy calendar of regular events is already underway, designed to bring people together, especially in the early days of the community.  Click on calendar to the right to view up and coming events. Download current newsletter

The Glades Arts & Produce Market

The ever popular Glades Arts & Produce Market is held on the third Saturday of every month at The Glades.

The January Market will run from 4pm to 9pm on Saturday, 21st January.

Come join in the fun, meet Santa, enjoy live Christmas music and activities for the kids; including making your own snow globes.

The Market is rapidly growing in size and now features more than 80 stalls, selling everything from fresh local produce including fruit, vegetables, meat, honey and eggs, to unique and original hand crafted arts and crafts.

There is a range of delicious food available plus live entertainment for the whole family.

It’s a fantastic evening for all to enjoy.

For information, call 0409 115 880 or email marketcoordinator@theglades.net.au.

Here are just some of the comments from recent visitors to the market.

As stall holders at Byford Glades, we enjoy not only the excitement and camaraderie with other stallholders at the Market, but the challenge of preparing our “countryoz” homemade jams, chutneys and relishes, with produce grown in our home garden using organically based methods.

The location of the market and surroundings are ideal with well-tended lawns and gardens, adequate parking and easy access for stallholders and market patrons alike.

We commend the developers for their foresight and continued support and the assistance from the Byford Volunteer Fire Brigade particularly for erecting the marquees.

We hope this monthly event continues to be an attraction for the people of Byford, surrounding areas and further afield.  We thank the Market Coordinator, Mandi Parker and her assistants, for thier input and innovative ideas for each market.

Hi Mandi, Saturday night was great   thanks! The reticulation just provided that little more entertainment
Can we please  book in  for the Feb and March ones as well? Also the Natural Soap  Berry Co would  like a stall for Feb. They will be emailing you tonight  but just in case they  don't get to it can you please reserve them a  spot? It's my brother and sister  in law so if we can be next to each  other it'd be great. Thanks  so much, you're doing a great  job! (I'm inspired to take up belly dancing now!)  Kali

The Glades on Halloween

Ghosties, ghouls, witches and fairies were busy roaming the streets of The Glades on Halloween, when more than 30 Glades' households got together for a community 'Trick or Treat' session.

"It was a team effort – local resident Rebecca Ferris really did all the hard work. We gave every household a notice to put up in their front window if they were happy for our little team of Hallow'eeners to knock on their door for Trick or Treat, and the kids were thrilled by the number of residents who welcomed them with lollies and treats." Glades resident and Market Coordinator Mandi Parker said.

One resident calculated she had about 50 children knock on her door – and has vowed to stock up with more lollies for next year so she doesn't run out!

Residents also used The Glades Residents facebook page to organise the get together and post photos of the evening's fun and games.

250 Glades residents enjoy get together

More than 250 residents from The Glades at Byford came together at the Serpentine Jarrahdale YMCA on Saturday night (22 October) for a chance to meet their neighbours.

Seventy families from The Glades enjoyed a buffet dinner, organised by The Glades Community Development Team. Food was provided by professional caterers, including The Glades Arts & Produce Market regular iSpice, whose curry puffs were a particular hit!

"We often talk about the kind of community we are trying to create at The Glades, and the success of Saturday night is really encouraging. Residents obviously value the sense of belonging and connecting with their neighbours that is so much at the heart of what The Glades is all about." The Glades Welcome Coordinator and local resident Sarah Schrape said.

Spring Festival at The Glades

The Glades at Byford was in full bloom on Sunday 11 September as in excess of 4000 visitors enjoyed the Spring Festival as well celebrating the return of the hugely popular Arts & Produce Market and Cyclo Sportif race to The Glades.

Visitors had the chance to browse 130 market stalls, take part in free AWESOME arts activities for kids, watch the classic cars, jet sprint boats and motorbikes on show and enjoy the live entertainment.

LWP Property Group General Manager, Project Development, Phil Cuttone said it was the perfect event to showcase The Glades as a real community and not just a development.

Market Coordinator and Glades resident, Mandi Parker, was overwhelmed by the response on the day with the return of the market being a huge drawcard for visitors.

“It was great to see so many families enjoying the lovely spring weather, Festival activities and bumper turn out of 130 market stalls, demonstrating the continued popularity of market events," Mandi said.

Visitors also enjoyed the great live music from former Australian Idol contestant, Chris Murphy and Billy and the Broken Lines.

The Glades Movie Night

The Glades held its annual movie night on a balmy Friday evening in February, for residents and the wider community. “We had around 500 people come along to our free movie night,” The Glades Community Development Officer, Francine Nicol said.

“People packed picnics or bought supper from one of the food vendors, then just kicked back and enjoyed the main film, Furry Vengeance. It was great to have so many people turn up, particularly on such a swelteringly hot night when the lure of the aircon at home could have been too hard to resist!”

The movie night was another initiative of The Glades’ Community Development team.

Adventure Playground Opening

Hundreds of families turned out on a beautiful sunny Autumn day to help celebrate the official opening a new adventure playground at The Glades.

Lisa Hose, 2010 winner of Australia’s Biggest Loser, made a special guest appearance at the ‘healthy living’ event on Sunday 30th May 2010, joining in with a celebrity tug of war against Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire President Dr Sheila Twine

A climbing wall, huge bouncy castles, lots of free giveaways plus ice cream, face painting and live entertainment all contributed to the festive atmosphere.

The new adventure playground has been named ‘Percy’s Adventure Playground’ in honour of William Percival (‘Percy’) Nairn, a resident of Byford who served his country in two world wars.

The playground is constructed from timber and includes a 36m flying fox, pommel swings, a balance beam and a climbing net.

The opening of the playground marks the start of the development of the first glade, which will form a 1.5km corridor of parkland featuring exercise stations, walk and bike trails, and public open space.
