Opening of Percy's Adventure Playground
Hundreds of families turned out on a beautiful sunny Autumn day to help celebrate the official opening a new adventure playground at The Glades.
Lisa Hose, 2010 winner of Australia’s Biggest Loser, made a special guest appearance at the ‘healthy living’ event on Sunday 30th May 2010, joining in with a celebrity tug of war against Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire President Dr Sheila Twine.
A climbing wall, huge bouncy castles, lots of free giveaways plus ice cream, face painting and live entertainment all contributed to the festive atmosphere.
The new adventure playground has been named ‘Percy’s Adventure Playground’ in honour of William Percival (‘Percy’) Nairn, a resident of Byford who served his country in two world wars.
The playground is constructed from timber and includes a 36m flying fox, pommel swings, a balance beam and a climbing net.
The opening of the playground marks the start of the development of the first glade, which will form a 1.5km corridor of parkland featuring exercise stations, walk and bike trails, and public open space.
