A Community Planning Team that included representatives from the City of Swan and residents from the surrounding communities developed the framework for this Community Development Plan, that outlined the evolution of a vibrant and sustainable community. The Ellenbrook Community Development Plan encompasses 'place planning', a provision of facilities and services and funding mechanisms to support the creation of a community. It is reviewed and updated regularly.

Ellenbrook has many 'firsts' in community development including;

  • School in Houses (and also School in Offices) - an innovative method of providing primary school facilities by the time the first 50 residents had moved into their new homes
  • Community Development Fund - a partnership funded by the Ellenbrook Joint Venture and City of Swan that provides funds for community facilities
  • Employing a Community Development Officer from the very early days (as befits a town the size of Ellenbrook community development is now managed by the City of Swan)
  • Establishing Ellenbrook Arts - a not for profit organisation established by the Ellenbrook Joint Venture to promote arts and culture within the suburb

LWP has recently entered into a partnership with Awesome Arts, to further develop arts participation and assist Ellenbrook Arts with the provision of strategic advice. Awesome Arts is best known for its work with youth, and its annual festival Awesome International Festival for bright young things. Read more about Awesome Arts.
